Medical Life Holdings Expands All Payer Model to Additional Three Florida Counties

Jacksonville, FL (May 22, 2020) - Medical Life Holdings’ subsidiary, Crucial Care® announced the expansion of its all payer model for value-based emergency care through GuideWell Emergency Doctors to reach 5.3 million Floridians.

Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa Bay

Crucial Care® currently operates four emergency care clinics, one in Jacksonville and three in the Orlando area (through GuideWell Emergency Doctors). In total, six new GuideWell Emergency Doctors facilities will be opening by the end of 2021 in the Tampa Bay area. The first two are expected to open by the end of this year.

Providing High-Quality Care While Reducing Healthcare Spend

Crucial Care® is the first endeavor by Medical Life in their mission to make healthcare more efficient and valuable. Founded in 2007, Crucial Care® facilities provide emergency care for approximately one-third the cost of traditional and free-standing emergency rooms. To further boost care value, the facility staff uses Pathfinder® (a proprietary robust care orchestration platform) to execute proven integration and hand-off protocols, directing patients to the most appropriate downstream providers and resources.

“When we launched our first Crucial Care® facility in Jacksonville, it was to offer an alternative to the way patients react during an unscheduled medical event,” said Medical Life Holdings Chairman Mike Shumer. “Now we can show that our facilities provide an alternative to the ER that creates actuarially-validated savings of more than $20 million per facility per year.” Savings come through a combination of avoided hospital costs and more efficient site of care for most unscheduled care.

Crucial Care® facilities are staffed with board-certified emergency medicine doctors and feature much of the same equipment as a traditional hospital emergency room including: CT scan, x-ray, ultrasound and certified labs. Like an ER, Crucial Care® manages patients with both major and minor medical conditions. Patient care is provided in a comfortable setting. The average wait time is only 20 minutes, with the average total length of a visit being one hour. Crucial Care® and GuideWell Health opened the first GuideWell Emergency Doctors Operated by Crucial Care® in Winter Park in 2014, adding locations in Orlando in 2016 and Ocoee in 2017.
